The Wyandotte County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center is part of a statewide initiative administered by the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority.
The JIAC provides a central point of intake and assessment for juvenile offenders, a child in need of care, runaway children, and children who are victims of abuse and/or neglect. We serve children from birth to 17 years of age. The intake process is NOT for criminal investigation or investigation into abuse and neglect allegations. The information taken at the JIAC intake process may only be used to help the court with decisions pertaining to the disposition of the child.
JIAC staff will provide referrals to community organizations, provide a snack sack for each child, and when necessary, locate emergency foster home home/placements for children in police protective custody.
The Wyandotte County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center has operated under the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office since July 1, 2007. The Sheriff’s Department has a strong desire to make every youth in Wyandotte County a success and to give them the ability to feel empowered.
It is our mission to provide a safe environment and appropriate resources and referrals for every youth that visits JIAC.
