Picnic Shelters

Wyandotte County Lake Park
Leavenworth Rd. and 91st St.

This park consists of 1500 acres, 400 acre lake for fishing and boating and 16 shelters, all have with water, electricity, playground equipment and restrooms.

The James P. Davis Hall will accommodate 150 people for parties, meeting and receptions. A large playground area and rental boats are available for the public. Also, pontoon docks available for annual rental and includes a horse riding trail.

Odd number shelters are on the east side of the lake and even number shelters are on the west side.

Shelter 1 is located on the east side of lake, 1 mile into the park, across from the James P. Davis Hall and close to the main road. The shelter has 4 tables, 2 grills and 2 fireplace grills inside the shelter. Additional tables and grills are in the surrounding area.

Shelter 2 is located in the south end of the park behind Ranger Headquarters and the Administration Building. This is the only large shelter close to the main kids playground. It also has playground equipment at the shelter. The shelter has 6 tables, 2 grills and the restroom is about 175 feet from the shelter.

Shelter 3 is on the same road with shelters 5 and 7 approximately ½ mile from the 83rd street entrance. The shelter has 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside the shelter and a large parking lot.

Shelter 4 is a short drive off the main road. It has 4 tables, 2 grills, 2 fireplace grills inside, and a restroom about 170 feet from the shelter. A path leads to the lake.

Shelter 5 shares the same access off of the main Road as shelters 3 and 7. It has 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside the shelter. It has a large level parking lot slightly uphill from the shelter.

Shelter 6 is close to the water at Stotler Cove. It has 6 tables and 2 grills. The restroom is about 150 feet from the shelter. A flat play area is across the street to the west.

Shelter 7 is at the end of the access road shared with 3 and 5, and one way road exits next to the shelter. This is a stone and wood shelter with 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside the shelter. The restroom is 200 ft. from the shelter.

Shelter 8 is located behind and above the beach shelter and the boathouse. It has 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside. The restroom is 210 feet from the shelter. Additional tables and grills are available outside the shelter.

Shelter 9 has 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside the shelter. This shelter is close to the Boy Scout area and is constructed of large beams. The restroom is 350 ft. from the shelter.

Shelter 10 is located on the west side of the lake across from Shelter 8. It has 4 tables, 2 grills and 2 fireplace grills inside the shelter. It also has a large level parking lot.

Shelter 11 is the last shelter on the east side before going across the dam. It has 4 tables,2 grills and 2 fireplace grills inside the shelter. The ground around the shelter, swings and restroom is very level. The restroom is close to the shelter and there is a large parking area.

Shelter 12 is very isolated on a dead end road. This shelter has a large level parking area with the rest room on the parking lot level. The shelter is at a slight incline down from the parking lot and it has 4 tables, 2 grills and 1 fireplace grill inside the shelter.

83rd Street Shelter is at the 83rd street entrance on the east side of the lake. The end of Wilson Cove is across the street from this shelter. This is a stone shelter with 6 tables and 2 grills. The restroom is close to the shelter and there is a large flat play area on a lower level adjacent to the shelter.

Shelter 14 is located close to the main road and walking distance to a small cove for fishing. The shelter has 6 tables, 2 grills and the restroom is some distance from the shelter. This shelter is surrounded by many large mature trees that provide lots of shade.

Shelter 16 is a short drive off the main road, but cannot be seen from the main road. This shelter is handicap accessible with the restrooms inside the shelter. It has 6 tables, 2 grills and a large parking area.

Beach Shelter is on the water on the west side of the lake. This is the largest shelter at Wyandotte County Lake. It has 14 tables, 2 grills and the restroom is attached. A handicap ramp is located on the upper level. Parking is available on the lower level and the upper level. The boat house and two small practice ball fields are within walking distance.
