Allowable Residential Open Burning

Wyandotte County residents are allowed to burn their naturally occurring organic waste generated on their property during the month of April and between October 16th and November 15th. Allowable residential burning is subject to the following limitations:

  • Must apply for a permit from a KCK Fire Station
  • Permit must be received and approved at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of burning
  • Must maintain adequate water supply at the burn site
  • Piles shall be no larger than 100 square feet at the base (10' X 10')
  • Burning shall not occur within 15 feet of any building
  • Burning must be conducted between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM
  • One (1) organic pile per permit, one (1) permit per property
  • Only naturally occurring organic waste may be burned
  • Fire Chief may revoke burn permits
  • Any illegal burning shall be subject to Local and State enforcement action
