The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas is developing a Stormwater Treatment Ordinance to address post-construction stormwater management in new development and redevelopment projects within the Unified Government’s (UG) jurisdiction.
The Nation’s Clean Water Act obligates communities like the UG to meet certain mandates to prevent harmful pollutantsfrom being washed by stormwater runoff into local water bodies. Thus, the UG will develop, implement, and enforce an Ordinance to address stormwater runoff from new development and redevelopment projects. The Ordinance will also include maintenance standards for existing detention ponds and other privately-owned stormwater treatment facilities. It will NOT apply to farming operations on land in agricultural districts.
