BPU REVOLVING LOAN PROGRAM
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County-Kansas City, Kansas is supporting efforts that will establish financial incentives for energy efficiency improvements in Kansas City, Kansas. The Unified Government’s municipally-owned electric utility, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), is applying with the Kansas Corporation Commission to begin a revolving loan program to fund cost-effective energy efficiency improvements. Financing is available for up to $20,000 for homes and $30,000 for small commercial businesses. The loan is paid back through the monthly utility bill not financed through a bank.
Included in the revolving loan program is a financial incentive to assist with the energy audit costs and minimize out of pocket costs for the applicants. The applicant and the EECBG will share in the audit costs for approximately the first 300 homes/small commercial applicants that apply for the revolving loan program. The BPU would pay the cost of the energy audit and request 50% reimbursement from the EECBG. When the agreement with the applicant is finalized, the remaining 50% of the audit costs will be included in the homeowner’s loan amount.
