The Unified Government Business Licensing is 1 of 7 divisions located in the NRC. The Business Licensing division is responsible for the enforcement of various Unified Government licensing and taxing ordinances, and for the billing, collection, and processing of fees prescribed by these ordinances.

Although the name would indicate that business licenses are the primary function, the reality is that processing business licenses only accounts for twenty percent of division efforts while collection and processing of occupation taxes represents the majority of the duties. Most businesses are not required to obtain a business license, however each must pay an occupation tax unless specifically exempted by Federal or State statute.
