Volunteer recognition is a key ingredient in a volunteer program’s success. Recognition events can be fun and range from coffees to lunches to dinners. Along with the usual certificates and special awards, the “Thanks” from Unified Government staff are important.
The Unified Government administration and staff takes every opportunity to praise and publicize the volunteers. Unified Government volunteers know they are appreciated and are doing something worthwhile. They are proud to volunteer and want to volunteer. They feel the Unified Government is “alive” and they are happy to be a part of it. The climate for this positive kind of attitude toward volunteerism starts with top management and extends through all levels of Unified Government Staff.
