Wyandotte County Public Health Department
News & Events
Below are stories and news releases about the Unified Government and about the divisions, units, and programs within the Public Heath Department.
Health departments in the metro region conducted a full scale exercise, “Spring Breakout” April 8-11 to test their county’s ability to receive, distribute, and dispense life saving medications to all residents within 48 hours.
Several Wyandotte County departments were involved in various activities:
Monday-activation of the emergency operations center (EOC) and the Public Health Department Operations Center (PHDOC).
Tuesday-Reception of federal supplies from the CDC at the KCMO caves. The Buildings and Logistics Department provided a vehicle and driver and the Sheriff’s office escorted the assets to the local distribution site (LDS).
Wednesday-Sheriff’s office escorted the assets from the LDS to and from the detention center. Dispensing at the jail to staff and inmates was done by their own staff. The jail is one of many closed dispensing sites throughout the county who give out the medication provided by the health department (in an emergency) to their own staff, families, and those in their care.
Thursday-Participation by Wyandotte County Public Health Department staff at the drive through open point of dispensing (POD) in Independence, MO.
This exercise was a successful test of Wyandotte County’s emergency preparedness plans.
