3/15/2014                              Opening Day Trout Fishing

The beginning of the Trout Fishing season will start at 6:00 a.m. at Wyandotte County Lake. Pierson Lake and Big 11 Lake will be open for fishing as well. For more information please visit our boating and fishing web page or call 913-573-8327.

5/31/2014                               Hershey Track and Field

Hershey's Track & Field Program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old. There are also events for children 9 and under. This is a free event that will take place at Washington High School. For more information please contact Jim Rusconi at 913-573-8330.

6/14/2014                                Kids Fishing Derby

The Annual Leavenworth Road Association Ed and Ione Kids Fishing Derby is co-sponsored by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department. The event is held at the kid’s pond located by the boathouse parking lot on the west side of Wyandotte County Lake. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.; derby begins at 8:00 a.m. and is over at 11:00 a.m. The event is limited to Wyandotte County residents, 15 years old or younger. An adult must accompany kids under age 10. Each participant will receive free worms, a free hot dog and goody bag. For more information please call 913-573-8358.

6/20-21/2014                          Juneteenth Celebration

The 8th Annual Juneteenth Parade and Celebration is co-sponsored by the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department. Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures, as we cultivate knowledge and appreciation for African American history and culture. The event will take place at Big Eleven Lake.

6/20-22/2014                         KC Flying Disc Wide Open Tournament

The annual Fireworks Display is sponsored by Turner Recreation Commission at Pierson Park. 

7/6/2014                                Psychedelic 5K summer Version 200

7/8/2014                                 Annual Missouri River 340

The Missouri River 340 is the largest non-stop river race which starts at Kaw Point. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. in Kansas City, Kansas and ends in St. Charles, Missouri. Participants must complete the trip in 100 hours. To find out more information please visit www.RiverMiles.com.

7/26/2014                                   Christmas in July

The inaugural Christmas in July event will take place on Saturday, July 26th at Wyandotte County Lake from 4 pm to 10:30 pm. This is a family friendly event to thank the wonderful patrons of our lake, parks and other facilities. There will be activities for the children, a DJ and plenty of food. Famous Dave’s will be on site serving and Cabela’s will have various displays. The highlight of the event will be the parade of decorated pontoon boats beginning at 8:15. This community event is co-sponsored by Parks and Recreation, P.R.I.D.E., Black Police Officers Association and other community organizations. The event begins with a parade and a celebration of success for area students returning to school.

11/9/2014                                   Veteran's Day Fantastic Four Mile Trail Run

This is a race hosted by Trail Nerds at Wyandotte County Lake to honor the veterans among us. If you are a veteran, or current or former member of the armed forces, police, fire department, park ranger, or EMT emergency services, your entry is FREE.
