What is NSP1?
The Neighborhood Stabilization Program 1 (NSP1) was authorized under Division B, Title III of Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA). The purpose of the program, as stated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is to stabilize communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment. The goal of the program is to purchase and redevelop abandoned homes and foreclosed homes.
The Unified Government received a grant of NSP1 funds from the State of Kansas. The funds were used to purchase a limited number of foreclosed houses. The houses are in the process of being rehabilitated with the use of NSP1 funds. Some of the houses have been completed and are now for sale.
