Oil and Auto Fluid Pollution

Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Sites

The EPA estimates over 200 million  gallons of oil from do-it-yourself oil changes are improperly disposed of each year. One quart of oil can contaminate one million gallons of water. Oil illegally dumped on the street will flow into storm drains.

How Can I Reduce Oil/Auto Fluid Runoff?

Wyandotte County residents can participate in household hazardous waste collection days for oil and automotive fluids.  Other house hold chemicals are also accepted at this drop off location. Call 913-573-5400 for dates.

  1. If you change your own oil, get a reusable oil container.  Drain oil carefully into container, avoid splatter & spill.  Recycle oil or dispose of properly, do not dump on the ground.
  2. Fix vehicles that are leaking fluids.
  3. Wyandotte County residents should recycle oil & automotive fluids at the household hazardous waste site listed above or they can  check for other drop off sites.
