Floodplain Maps Update
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently updated the old paper floodplain maps throughout Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas to digital. The primary purpose of updated information is to establish Flood Insurance Rate Maps, which show only the floodplain of larger rivers and streams. Localized flooding, such as runoff from a neighbor's yard or backups from sewers, is not addressed with these maps. The projected schedule for the adoption of the new floodplain maps by FEMA is September 2, 2011.
