Real Estate Ownership Requirements
The County side of the Clerk's office establishes and maintains effective and accurate recordings of official documents and ensures the integrity of the county Assessment Roll.
Real estate name changes related to the information on individual property tax statements can be made in the Clerks’ office. Examples of common legal documents that can result in ownership changes are probate judgments, divorce decrees, or other court decided pronouncements.
If there are name changes to a property previously filed in the Register of Deeds Office, the deed must be updated with the Register of Deeds Office. Statutorily the Register of Deeds office is responsible for recording prima facie evidence concerning property ownership.
