Traffic Diversions

Traffic Diversion Application & Policy

The District Attorney has established a diversion program for qualified traffic offenders.

You may be eligible if you received a traffic citation in Wyandotte County from a Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol.  You may also be eligible if you received a citation from a Deputy with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department, and the ticket is filed with the District Court. 

The following traffic violations are not eligible for diversion:

  • fleeing to elude
  • drag racing
  • speeding in a school or construction zone
  • failure to yield to an emergency vehicle
  • reckless driving
  • improper passing of a school bus

If you have any prior traffic convictions or diversions within the past year, you are not eligible for diversion.

If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL), you are not eligible for traffic diversion, regardless of whether you were driving a commercial vehicle at the time of the ticket.

How to Apply:

Submit a completed application to the Diversion Services Unit:

  • Applications are accepted at any point up until two weeks after your first scheduled court appearance

Pay the $50, non-refundable application fee:

  • In person at the Wyandotte County Courthouse, traffic department
  • By phone: (913) 573-4117

If you are applying for diversion, do not pay the fine listed on the citation.
