The Unified School District 500, the only school district in Kansas that operates a public library and the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library provide Wyandotte County library services through a contract with the Wyandotte County Library Board. The contract requires that KCKPL provide library services throughout Wyandotte County. Services include:
circulating collections of books and audiovisual materials
information and reference service,
access to the Internet and the World Wide Web,
programming and exhibits for children and adults
The Kansas City, Kansas Public Library consists of a Main Library complex in downtown Kansas City, Kansas. The Main branch serves a diverse business community, local residents and students, and historians and genealogists. It has 45,000 square feet and houses 181,000+ items, including the Kansas and Connelley collections of local history. Residents of the county may use all six branches and a mobile library unit.

Dykes Library, located on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas, is one of the most complete medical libraries in the Midwest.
The Library is open to the public for those seeking health information or conducting medical research. Borrowing privileges are available to all faculty, staff and students of the KU Medical Center. Non-KU Medical Center individuals may purchase a membership for the Library, which will allow you to borrow library materials and use the Library's licensed databases (such as MEDLINE) within the Library.

The Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library opened June 26, 2001. Located at Wyandotte County Lake Park, this KCKPL branch is a year-round interactive library, nature center, and nature trail offering scientific, educational, cultural, informational, and recreational opportunities to visitors of all ages. It was created by a Partnership between Wyandotte County Parks Foundation and USD 500.
Wyandotte County Library Board
The Chair of the Wyandotte County Library Board is appointed by the Mayor of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
The Board elects the other officers, and the current term began September 28, 2004.
