Police Officer on MotorcycleCommunity Policing is 1 of 7 divisions located in the NRC. Community Policing is proactive, solution-based and community driven. It requires local government, law enforcement agencies and law-abiding citizens to work together to arrest offenders, prevent crime, solve ongoing problems and improve the overall quality of community life.

The current trend in American policing today is toward the philosophy of Community-Oriented Policing. This strategy focuses on the causes of crime and places an emphasis on integrating policing with the community and the neighborhood.

The Community Policing officers regularly attend neighborhood watch meetings, business/merchant association group meetings; meet with citizen activists, church leaders, and other public service agencies and providers. In an effort to improve the overall quality of life in Kansas City, Kansas, the officer’s network with other police departments and governmental agencies in an effort to address crime, fear of crime, social and physical disorder, neighborhood and community decay.
