Our Mission 

The mission of the Strategic Communications Department is to support the proactive and timely exchange of information with our community, partners, elected leaders, regional media outlets, and staff by the Unified Government. We support organizational transparency and civic engagement through this information-sharing and by cultivating strong community partnerships to help us grow our outreach network.

The Strategic Communications Department oversees organization-wide communications, content strategy, and implementation of capacity-building initiatives to expand our reach to our community. Duties include media relations and public information such as eNews, The Citizen Newsletter, social media, website, and UGTV; marketing of Unified Government programs; resource and best practice development around community engagement; strategic planning and communications on major issues; and situation management.

The Citizen Newsletter

CITIZEN_FALL_09062021_Page_01.jpg The Citizen is a newsletter that is mailed to every household in Wyandotte County approximately 3-4 times per year. This free publication includes a letter from the Mayor, updates on local services and programs, important information on COVID-19 resources, and other updates. eNews.jpg Every Thursday, the Communications team sends out an email newsletter to all subscribers. This regular communication features timely updates and announcements from across the Unified Government, previews upcoming Commission meetings, offers resources on jobs, adopting a pet, and other community services.

The Unified Government has multiple social media channels for regular information and updates. We currently do not monitor social media on the weekends but we do our best to respond to inquiries and questions. Follow us today!

UGTV and YouTube

UGTV

UGTV is the Unified Government’s cable access channel which airs content 24-hours, every day of the week. We provide a variety of viewing options for the public to access and watch public meetings and other programming on UGTV.

  • Broadcast Television: Available on Spectrum Cable (Channel 2) and in High Definition on Google Fiber (Channel 141).
  • Video on Demand (VOD): View Board of Commission meetings streamed live on YouTube.

Meetings recorded from 2017 and before can be accessed on YouTube. All meetings from 2018 to present can be viewed both on YouTube and through our Video on Demand platform.

Whether it is watching a Commission meeting, learning about key programs, or catching the latest news from the Unified Government, we develop and post videos content regularly on our YouTube channel.

DotteTalk

DotteTalk.jpg DotteTalk is an online community forum designed to hear from you, our community, on key questions and specific topics. From time to time, we will post a new question, survey, poll or challenge to help us understand your priorities.
