Community Integrity Unit

In June 2020, District Attorney Mark Dupree announced an expansion of the State’s first and only Conviction Integrity Unit in an effort to hold law enforcement accountable. With this expansion, Dupree renamed the Unit to the Community Integrity Unit.

Now, in addition to investigating credible claims of actual innocence and wrongful conviction, certified law enforcement officers investigate citizen reports of excessive force or misconduct by the police.

With a keen understanding that empathy is the cornerstone of justice, Dupree took on this new responsibility and commitment to the community because, as he put it, “If we are to have a fair and just system that works the same for black, brown and white folks, we must have real reform, not just sentimental emotions.”
