COVID-19 Vaccines

2023-2024 Updated COVID Vaccines at the Wyandotte County Public Health Department

The Wyandotte County Public Health Department (WYCO PHD) offers updated COVID vaccines for:

  • Adults who are uninsured, underinsured, on Medicaid, or on these types of private health insurance: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthCare, and Point Comfort Underwriters.
    • Note: Adults ages 65 and older can receive an additional dose. As of February 28, 2024, The CDC recommends that adults ages 65 and older receive an additional dose of the updated 2023-2024 COVID vaccine. Older adults are at increased risk of severe disease from COVID, and an extra dose can provide added protection.
  • Children ages 6 months and older who are eligible for the Vaccines for Children program (Vaccines for Children eligibility: Medicaid-eligible, uninsured, underinsured, or American Indian or Alaska Native).

Please note that there is a $20 administration fee, which is the same fee that applies to our other vaccinations.

To make an appointment at the WYCO PHD, call (913) 573-8855. If you live in Wyandotte County, ask about getting free transportation to and from your vaccine appointment!

For children with private insurance, or for anyone looking for other COVID vaccine locations, check with your primary healthcare provider or go to vaccines.gov to find other COVID vaccine locations near you.

COVID vaccines for uninsured and underinsured adults are provided through the Bridge Access Program.

You can get your flu vaccine at the same time as your COVID vaccine!

Basic Information and Guidance

COVID vaccines protect against serious illness, hospitalization, or death from COVID. Anyone age 6 months and older is eligible to be vaccinated. The COVID virus continues to change, which mean vaccine recommendations may change to respond to the virus. This is why there's an updated 2023-2024 vaccine, and CDC anticipates there will be an updated COVID vaccine for 2024-2025, similar to what happens with the annual flu shot.

The CDC recommends that everyone who is eligible get vaccinated, and that everyone stay up to date with COVID vaccinations. Check to see if you are up to date on your COVID vaccines at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/stay-up-to-date.html

Guidance for people with weakened immune systems

People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised (have a weakened immune system) are at increased risk of severe COVID-19 illness and death. Additionally, their immune response to COVID-19 vaccination may not be as strong as in people who are not immunocompromised. If you are immunocompromised, you may need to receive more doses of COVID vaccine than someone who is not immunocompromised.
