6th and Armstrong Corridor Improvements Open House

The Unified Government is planning a series of mobility improvements for the 6^th Street and Armstrong Avenue corridors. The project includes upgrades in traffic and pedestrian safety and the construction of a two-way, on-street bicycle path.

Residents are invited to an open house-style public meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the KCK Main Branch Public Library, 625 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, 66101. Attendees can stop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 PM to review project details. No formal presentation will be made, and project representatives will be available to answer questions.

The project covers improvements along 6^th Street (Central Avenue to Armstrong Avenue) and Armstrong Avenue (6^th Street to 4^th Street). It will be completed in two phases.

Phase 1

• This phase includes ADA-compliant upgrades, new sidewalks, updated signage and markings, and general maintenance of the corridors.
• Funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Phase 1 is expected to be advertised for bid in 2024, with construction starting in 2025.

Phase 2

• In addition to the upgrades included in Phase 1, Phase 2 will feature a two-way, on-street bicycle path along the west side of 6^th Street between Ann Avenue and Riverview/6^th Street Trafficway, as well as reverse angle parking on Orchard Avenue.
• This phase has secured both local and federal funding and is projected to be advertised for bid in 2026.
