The Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) has awarded the Central Area Master Plan its inaugural Meadowlark Award for Outstanding Public Outreach efforts. The Planning and Urban Design Department accepted the award on behalf of the many neighborhood, non-profit, and business partners who worked with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas to create greater awareness of the value of planning in improving the community’s quality of life.

Of particular note was the project’s quick pivot to alternative, mostly digital outreach during the pandemic and its bilingual efforts, including an unprecedented full Spanish translation of the final plan document. The outreach award was presented to UG Staff at a ceremony during the State of Kansas’ annual Planning Conference on October 15, 2021.
