131st Street slightly north of Parallel Parkway will be closed from February 2 through March 1, 2022, for construction. The closure is needed to replace a failed under road culvert. The existing structure will be upsized from a 48” diameter pipe to a 60” diameter pipe to account for increases in stormwater runoff over the years. Whether large or small, culverts play an important role in managing stormwater runoff. Culverts come in many shapes and sizes, from small and circular, to large boxes with wing walls. In any case, the purpose of a culvert is straightforward: they improve public safety during rain events by allowing water to flow in a controlled manner away from streets, homes, and businesses. If you have a culvert under the driveway at your home, remember to check on it the next time it rains. Please slow down and follow posted detour signage.
