FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 3, 2021

Unified Government is recruiting a new Wyandotte County Appraiser
Kathy Bridges is not seeking reappointment after transforming our appraisal process.

The Unified Government is currently recruiting for the position of Wyandotte County Appraiser, a critical role in determining the accurate and equitable values of all property types in Wyandotte County. The Wyandotte County Appraiser is an appointed position to a four-year term per the State of Kansas. This is an exciting opportunity for the candidate who wants to lead in a diverse community that is on the rise and will lead a team of dedicated professionals.

The Appraiser’s Office is undergoing several significant technology projects to improve the customer experience and to enhance productivity by providing tablets in the field to appraisers. The Department has been on the leading edge in the use of data and geospatial analysis. The County Appraiser provides annual updates to the UG Commission and the County Administrator’s Office on trends and valuation changes across the county. This position requires considerable technical and managerial abilities.

The County Appraiser is selected by the County Administrator, whom they report to for day-to-day work, with final appointment by the Unified Government Commission. The position is appointed to a term in office to ensure independence in making valuation decisions and to keep the appraisal process free from actual or perceived political interference. The Unified Government is a combined City/County that functions with a County Manager form of government. The County Appraiser serves a four-year term beginning July 1, 2021 and expiring on June 30, 2025.

Since her appointment, Ms. Bridges has led the department into compliance with all state requirements. “We thank Kathy for her steadfast leadership and commitment to our community over the past six years,” said Doug Bach. “While we are sad to see her go, she has left the Appraiser’s Office in great shape as we continue to grow as a county.”

Kathy Bridges joined the Unified Government in April of 2015 as Deputy County Appraiser and was then later appointed to the position of County Appraiser, with her term expiring on June 30, 2021. Prior to working for the Unified Government, she served as the Deputy Appraiser for Barton County, Kansas.

”I appreciate the opportunity I have been given to serve the citizens of Wyandotte County, and the support I have received from everyone here at the Unified Government. As I move forward to my next journey, I want to convey that I will truly miss everyone, as I have made so many good friends. I also want to express how very proud I am of the hard work, accomplishments and professionalism of the entire staff here at the Appraiser’s Office,” said Kathy Bridges.

For candidates who are interested in the County Appraiser role, the Unified Government has job posting available on its website. Applications are due by 5:00PM on June 23, 2021.
