Angel Obert named “30 Under 30” by the National Recreation & Park Association

The Unified Government is proud to announce Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Angel Obert was recently recognized as a “30 Under 30” by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

NRPA launched their first-ever “30 Under 30” this year. This new recognition program is a joint effort honoring 30 of the top young park and recreation professionals in the nation.

NRPA’s selection committee evaluated nominations on one or more of the following criteria: impact on an agency’s community and service population, contributions to the development of the parks and recreation profession, innovative ideas, and programs or research in the field of parks and recreation.

Ms. Obert is considered one of the young parks and recreation professionals to watch in 2021. Her work on behalf of Wyandotte County includes:
  • The County’s first enclosed dog park fully granted through Bark for Your Park.
  • The County’s first inclusive playground designed to include everyone through thoughtful design, provide a safe place for children of all abilities to play together, are developmentally appropriate for children with and without disabilities, and meaningfully integrate all of the senses while encouraging social play.
  • The County’s first state-of-the-art outdoor fitness court and gym facility Securing a $100,000 grant from Major League Baseball and a $50,000 grant from Royals Charities to perform baseball field renovations at City Park.
  • The implementation of a digital portal, CivicRec, for customers to register for programs/activities and reserve amenities.
