UG Closes City Hall, Courthouse and other Municipal Facilities to Conserve Electricity

Unified Government Closes City Hall, Courthouse and other Municipal Facilities to Conserve Electricity
Customers encouraged to use online services.

 
(KANSAS CITY, Kan.) — Upon advisement of the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU), the Unified Government has closed City Hall, City Hall Annex, Neighborhood Resource Center and other municipal facilities to walk-in customers to conserve energy today. Staff will continue to support operations remotely.

“The UG will continue to reduce its load and do its part so that the utilities can continue to provide power to homes and businesses,” says Mayor David Alvey. “This is an unprecedented event across the nation and the Southwest Power Pool. We are asking everyone to do their part to reduce load so we can get through this disruption safety and quickly.”

Vaccination and Warming Sites Remain Open
The Unified Government Public Health Department will continue with COVID-19 vaccinations at both locations (more information available here) and warming centers remain available during regular business hours. The hotline for the KCK Cold Weather Shelter, provided by the Red Cross, is 913-214-1104 with beds available first come first serve during this extreme weather.

Trash Services Delayed.
Trash service will not take place today. The UG will remain in close contact with Waste Management on the schedule for trash service.

Municipal Court Hearings Cancelled.
KCK Municipal Court Zoom hearings on Tuesday, February 16 and Wednesday, February 17 are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Many local government services can be accessed through the UG website at www.wycokck.org.
