Unified Government Names Director of Strategic Communications

County Administrator Doug Bach has announced the appointment of Ashley Z. Hand, AIA, LEED AP BD+C as the Director of Strategic Communications for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.

Hand brings a strong background in local governance, civic innovation, and urban development. She previously served as the first Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Kansas City, Missouri and the Transportation Technology Strategist for the City of Los Angeles. Most recently she co-founded Cityfi, an urban change management practice, where she has developed nationally recognized strategic plans for communities across the country.

“I am thrilled to be rejoining the public sector during such a critical time of rebuilding and recovery,” says Hand. “I look forward to fostering innovative and collaborative efforts to increase access to services and create a more equitable, sustainable future for all of the UG’s diverse neighborhoods.”

“I am happy to welcome Ms. Hand to the Unified Government team,” said Doug Bach, County Administrator. “She brings an exceptionally strong background in local government and will help the Unified Government communicate more strategically and effectively across a range of areas. Our community is on the move, and I am very pleased to have Ms. Hand join my senior leadership team,” continued Bach.

A licensed architect, Hand graduated with a Master of Architecture from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and received a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Serving on the boards of several regional and national organizations, she is also an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Public Administration Program at Tulane University, School of Professional Advancement.
