Starting late January 2022 and early February 2022, Wyandotte County residents may receive a survey from the Unified Government in their mailbox.

Every other year since 2014, the Unified Government has issued a community-wide survey to better understand community priorities, collect feedback on services, and identify opportunities for improvement across our organization. The data collected through this community survey is shared with our elected officials, county administration, and department leaders to help inform policy-making and key budget decisions for the Unified Government.

The survey is facilitated by ETC Institute, an Olathe, Kansas-based research firm. ETC Institute was founded in 1982 by Dr. Elaine Tatham to help local governments gather data from residents to enhance community planning. The firm has grown from a small one-person company to a national corporation. Since its founding, ETC Institute has completed research projects for clients in 49 states. This includes thousands of surveys, focus groups, and stakeholder meetings.

How does the survey work?

The survey is sent to at least 2,400 Wyandotte County residents and ETC works to ensure that each Commission district is represented in the final sample. While not everyone will receive a survey, the research team makes sure that the respondents are representative of our overall population, ensuring all data collected accurately reflects our community. All responses to our survey are completely confidential and you will not be contacted.

In the coming weeks, you may receive the survey in the mail. It only takes about 15 minutes to complete the entire survey and your input is greatly appreciated. We provide a postage paid envelope to return the survey directly to ETC Institute or you may elect to complete the survey online (follow the instructions from the mailer). Translation services are available.

In previous years, we have far exceeded the total target responses and results are presented with 95% level of confidence.

What's next?

After the ETC Institute collects surveys from Wyandotte County residents, they will tabulate and analyze the responses. The results will be presented to the Unified Government Board of Commissioners in April 2022. Stay tuned for updates!
