This year, CEO/Mayor Tyrone A. Garner is proclaiming Seven Days of Kindness for Wyandotte County. Join the Unified Government as we spread a little kindness in a world that seems to need more. Check out the great activities the Unified Government is planning.

Get Involved

Whether big or small, a simple, thoughtful gesture can change someone's day - and yours too! We have a variety of activities and suggestions for how you too can spread a little kindness.

Connect: Show Kindness for Neighbors in Need

The Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office needs donations of new combs, brushes, men and women's socks, men and women's underwear, leggings, sweatpants, athletic shorts (S, M, L), and tee-shirts for the Juvenile Intake Program. We also need gender neutral or girl baby clothes for infants ages 0-18 months. Drop-off boxes for donations will be at various UG facilities starting Monday, April 10 through Friday, April 28.

DISCOVER: DIVE INTO OUR RICH LOCAL HISTORY

Visit the Wyandotte County Museum now through September 1, 2023 and check out the current exhibit featuring memorabilia from local high schools. Search for relatives in school district records from 1899 to 1962. Leave your personal stories about your own school memories for the next generation. Celebrate our incredible history and diversity as a county.

VALUE: Send a note of appreciation to UG Staff

For $1.00, send a message of appreciation to a UG Staff Member. Sales of candygrams will be held in the lobby of the Municipal Building (701 N. 7th Street Tfwy, KCK, 66101) on Monday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 19 from 11AM-1PM or at the Neighborhood Resource Center ( 4953 State Avenue, KCK, 66102) on Tuesday, April 18 from 11AM-1PM. Your notes of appreciation will be distributed on Friday, April 21. All proceeds to be donated to the Wyandotte County Parks Foundation.

YOU: Give Yourself a Break and Make A Change For You

Join the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library for a virtual mindfulness class on Wednesday, April 19 from 12:00PM-12:30PM. Register by April 16 at kckpl.org.

Join the Parks and Recreation Fitness Challenge! Participants eligible for weekly prizes. Information session will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 9AM at the Joe Amayo Community Center.

Others: Brighten Someone's Day

Do an act of kindness for someone in need. Drop off needed supplies to an elderly friend of neighbor. Take a token of appreciation to first responders. Buy a coffee for the next person in line. Anonymously put flowers on someone's front porch. Share your kindness with us by tagging us on social media with the hashtag #DotteKindness.

Go: Make an Impact, Together

Join any of the upcoming Earth Day clean-ups happening in neighborhoods across Wyandotte County. Consider joining the Central Avenue Betterment Association (CABA) at Bethany Park or the Bonner Springs Citywide Clean-up this month or grab a few neighbors and trashbags and tidy up your own block. Check out our complete events calendar for the many ways you can make an impact in your community.

Onward: Be the Change

Do you love the idea of bringing more kindness to the Unified Government year-round? Staff are encouraged to sign-up to become a UG Kindness Ambassador. Community members are also encouraged to share how they will spread kindness 12 months a year! #DotteProud

About Seven Days of Kindness

The SevenDays® experience provides opportunities encouraging all people to increase kindness through knowledge, mindset and behavior. In April 2014, after a white supremacist murdered three Kansas City people because of his hate for Jews, two families and our community joined hands and hearts to shine a light on the darkness of hate.

Workplace kindness (within the community, with colleagues, and with oneself) has proven to elevate dopamine, produces oxytocin, and stimulates the action of the vegus nerve, which all help protect your heart and slow the effects of aging. These effects of kindness help keep your team members healthy, happy, and more productive.
