Thanks to a grant from the Kansas Leadership Center, 20 Unified Government (UG) employees were selected to participate in the inaugural DotteLeads leadership development program.

DotteLeads was established through the strategic efforts of the UG Forward Initiative to promote a culture of excellence across the Unified Government through continuous personal and professional development, self-reflection and process improvement.

The goals of the DotteLeads initiative are to develop a workforce that is equipped to lead effectively and make organizational impacts that will result in an improved experience for Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas communities.

“I am extremely excited to help spearhead the DotteLEADS program for UG employees,” said Tayler Wash, UG Organizational Effectiveness Coordinator. “Providing professional development and leadership opportunities for our employees is vital in making sure we help grow and retain our amazing employees. We are thankful to the Kansas Leadership Center for providing the funding and training for our staff. I cannot wait to see the organizational and community solutions this cohort and others will come up with.”

Employees in the inaugural DotteLeads cohort were selected from various UG departments ranging from municipal court, public works, fleet, health department, treasury, and the sheriff’s office.

All Unified Government employees are eligible to participate and can apply for the program at any time, however, the DotteLeads program is limited to a maximum of 20 participants per cohort. Those who are not selected in this cohort will remain in the candidate pool for the next cohort.

Participants are selected based on determination of how they will individually contribute to the group, not necessarily on individual accomplishments or status.

The employees selected for the first cohort of DotteLeads will meet once a week for 6 to 8 weeks to identify organizational issues and discuss and present solutions for the Unified Government and the community. Members of this cohort officially kicked-off their training by attending a 2-day training session facilitated by the Kansas Leadership Center, titled “Your Leadership Edge”.
