Beginning April 23 (weather permitting), bridge maintenance projects on I-670 and Central Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, will require lane and ramp closures.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is performing maintenance on several bridges:

  • The eastbound and westbound I-670 bridges over the Kansas River and Union Pacific Railroad.
  • The Central Avenue bridge over I-70 and the Union Pacific Railroad.

These tied projects will share traffic control and include girder repairs, expansion joint replacements, and bridge deck patching. All work is expected to be complete by late September.

What Drivers Need to Know:

  • The Central Avenue entrance ramp to eastbound I-670 will close completely for the duration of the project.
  • Additional lane and ramp closures will be scheduled as work progresses.
  • Work hours are Monday through Saturday, during daylight hours.

Message boards and signs have been placed in the area to keep drivers informed. Traffic will be managed with lane and ramp closures, message boards, signs, cones, and barricades.

Clarkson Construction of Kansas City, Missouri, is handling the project, which has a combined cost of $9.3 million.
