UPDATE: KCKPD & KCKFD Scam Donation Letter Being Circulated

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS (UG) alerted the public of a possible Kansas City, KS Fire Department (KCKFD) mail donation letter scam circulating throughout the community.
This letter requested donations on behalf of the KCKFD for the firepup fire and burn prevention program from previous partners at the National Fire Safety Council (A letter sample is listed below for reference).
The donation letter was not authorized by the KCKFD nor UG County Administration. The KCKFD has since discontinued the partnership with the National Fire Safety Council and any donations received for this year will be returned.
Kansas City, KS - The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) would like to alert the community of a donation scam being sent in form of a mailed letter on behalf of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) and Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD).
It was brought to our attention that the letter was mailed to individuals requesting monetary donations. Please be advised that this letter is a complete scam, and that neither the KCKFD nor KCKPD are seeking any monetary donations.
A copy of the fraudulent letter and return envelope are listed below for your reference.
If you have received this fraudulent letter and have donated funds and fallen victim to this scam, please contact the KCKPD to file a police report. A report can be filed by phone, in-person or completed online. Complete information regarding filing a police report can be found at the link below.
