Free Event Spotlights Documentary About Local Firefighters and Family-Friendly Fire Safety Activities

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Legends Outlets and the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD) are proud to present Mission Ready: Firefighter Fun & Family Day, a free, interactive community event designed to celebrate the heroic work of KCK firefighters and educate the public on fire safety and public service. The event will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Legends Outlets.

At the heart of the event is a screening of Mission Ready: A Day in the Life of KCKFD Firefighters, a short documentary. The 15-minute film offers an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at a 24-hour shift at the KCKFD Headquarters, showcasing the bravery, skill, and dedication required of Kansas City, Kansas firefighters. “Mission Ready is more than just a film, it’s a powerful story about the people who protect our city,” said Scott Schaunaman, Assistant Chief of Training and Public Information Officer for the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department. “This event gives families the chance to meet our team, experience the tools we use, and walk away with life-saving fire safety knowledge.”

Activities Include:

Junior Firefighter Obstacle Course – Kids can test their skills on a mini firefighter challenge course.
“Touch a Truck” Fire Engine Experience – Climb into a fire truck and meet the crew.
Fire Prevention Station + Live Fire Extinguisher Demos – Learn how to handle real-life fire emergencies.
Live Firefighter Demonstrations – See the Jaws of Life and other essential firefighting tools in action.
Ask-a-Firefighter Career Booth – Discover careers in fire service and meet real firefighters.
