Smoke alarms save lives!

The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD), in collaboration with the American Red Cross is excited to announce the fifth iteration of “Sound the Alarm” on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Bethel Welborn Neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas.

This bi-annual event is dedicated to enhancing fire safety, awareness, and preparedness in local communities.

This fall event will mobilize volunteers to canvass the Bethel Welborn Neighborhood with educational information and install smoke alarms in homes where needed.

Installations will occur between 9AM and 4:00PM. You can request an installation appointment by phone or text. Please leave your name, address, best phone number and preference for morning or afternoon if possible.

Bethel Welborn Households Wanted: Request a FREE Installation

Any homeowner wishing to schedule a smoke alarm installation may contact the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department at (913) 573-5971 or text (913) 991-7002. The October 11th Sound the Alarm event is open to households in the Bethel Welborn neighborhood.

Volunteers Needed

Individuals and local groups interested in volunteering for the Sound the Alarm event are encouraged to join us on the day of the event at the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department (KCKFD)- Station 18 (5429 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS).

Volunteer registration for the morning will begin at 7:45 AM and for the afternoon at 11:45 AM on Saturday, October 11, which includes training and general guidance. Volunteers can assist for the entire day or sign up for timeslots from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM or 12:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

No prior experience is necessary; we will provide all the training you will need. This event will be held rain or shine.

If you can indicate "KCK" on all communications, that will help! The American Red Cross will provide training for all volunteers on the day of installations.
