Celebrate SevenDays of Kindness at the Unified Government!
The Mayor’s Office is preparing for the annual SevenDays of Kindness activities. This year we have planned a Spirit Week for Monday, March 31st- Tuesday, April 8. Prepare to wear items with suggestions for activities for each day that represent Love, Discover, Others, Connect, You, Go and Onward. Each themed day will be our way to show how we overcome hate by promoting kindness and understanding through education and dialogue.
“I am thrilled that Unified Government employees and community members are engaging in the Seven Days of Kindness campaign again this year,” said CEO/ Mayor Tyrone A. Garner. “Many times, it’s the small gestures, such as a bright smile, a simple hello or a compliment that can make a huge impact in someone’s day. I am excited to continue the mission of the SevenDays Organization, and hopeful that this campaign will spark the hearts of our community to continue spreading random acts of kindness throughout the year.”
How to Get Involved
Monday, March 31 - LOVE - Reach out to your clients/associates/team members/loved ones
Wear red clothing items (shirts, pants, socks, jewelry, etc.) to demonstrate the power of love. Outward symbols, like wearing the same color let you know you are a part of a larger group. You belong and are loved! Other ideas for today: Text someone you love good morning, I love you, I miss you, etc.! Take someone to lunch today.

Tuesday, April 1 - DISCOVER – Learn, engage and share
Wear clothing reflecting your cultural background. Take time to learn about a coworker's culture that piques your curiosity. Other ideas for today: Bring a special treat that you enjoy and that is unique to your culture that you want your coworkers to try. Learn something new about a coworker Learn something new about your clients and team members.

Wednesday, April 2 - OTHERS - Engage with “the other”
Wear a shirt that shows support of organizations, or groups you volunteer for or have given your time talent and treasure to: Are you a blood donor, board member, supporter for the Red Cross, United Way, nonprofits in our area? Show us you support them with their logo on a shirt, vest, jacket, water bottles etc. Other ideas for today: write positive messages on a sticky note and leave for others to find. Leave quarters at the vending machine for someone to treat themselves.

Thursday, April 3 - Connect – With your colleagues
Find your “Twin”! Wear something that matches someone else. Examples include wearing matching hairstyles, have your team wear their departmental shirts, wear matching hats, etc.
Friday, April 4 - YOU - Taking care of you-mind, body and soul
Wear what represents YOU the most! Whatever you wear should represent your personality and interests. Celebrate whomever you are! Other ideas for today: Encourage your team members to take care of themselves on YOU day. Look in the mirror and say 3 positive things about yourself
Monday, April 7 - GO - Go out into the community
Wear your tennis shoes. Go day represents being active as a part of moving forward with kindness and understanding. Do something active with someone today. Suggestions include going on a walk with a friend.

Tuesday, April 8 - Onward - Find Your Onward
Wear something that expresses kindness either in words or images. Make this a reminder of how you will continue Kindness after this week 24/7/365

About Seven Days of Kindness
The SevenDays® experience provides opportunities to encourage all people to increase kindness through knowledge, mindset and behavior. In April 2014, after a white supremacist murdered three Kansas City people because of his hate for Jews, two families and our community joined hands and hearts to shine a light on the darkness of hate.
Workplace kindness (within the community, with colleagues, and with oneself) has proven to elevate dopamine, produces oxytocin, and stimulates the action of the vegus nerve, which all help protect your heart and slow the effects of aging. These effects of kindness help keep your team members healthy, happy, and more productive. You can read more about SevenDays, including how you can participate, at their website: sevendays.org
