We are wrapping up the month of January with several meetings this week. These sessions are all open to the public -- our meetings are held virtually but you are welcome to come to the lobby of the Municipal Building to participate as well. In addition to our meetings this evening, we also have a special meeting of the Economic Development & Finance Standing Committee tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at 5PM.

Monday, January 24

Public Works & Safety Standing Committee

  • Safe & Welcoming: After months of working with a coalition of community members and organizations, the Commission standing committee will discuss a Safe & Welcoming ordinance. The first part generally ensures that the Unified Government will not enforce or assist in enforcing federal immigration law. The second part describes a Municipal ID program.
  • Emergency Operations Plan: Required by state statute, the committee will consider updates to our County Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Grant Programs: The committee will hear a proposed application for the Economic Development Administration - Travel, Tourism & Outdoor Recreation Grant for the KC Levee Trails & Riverfront Project. We'll also hear an update from Burns & McDonnell on a compost facility feasibility study work funded by the Sustainable Materials Management Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Public Works Quarterly Report: The department will be providing its quarterly report on culture, professional development, winter weather operations, and 2022 projects.

Immediately following the Public Works & Safety Standing Committee is the Administration & Human Services Standing Committee Meeting.

Administration & Human Services Standing Committee

During tonight's meeting, the committee will hear a recommendation for additional allocation of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for ongoing public health response to the pandemic. Additionally, the Committee will consider an update to the 47th Street Overlay District to simplify approval requirements by each jurisdiction; an ordinance prohibiting conversion therapy of minors in the county; and a department update from Planning & Urban Design.
