The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG), the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2023 fiscal year. This award is for the 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The UG has achieved this award for 24 years straight.
Independent financial audits are completed each year by an outside firm, currently Forvismazars. The GFOA recognizes the UG's work on the 2023 ACFR which, is a comprehensive review of financial accounting, reporting, and compliance. Internal controls are tested as well to ensure proper checks and balances are in place.
“There is an extensive amount of work for the team to provide all required information to the auditors to review and test. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and the City of Kansas City Kansas has an extremely dedicated staff of financial professionals that have worked to ensure financial accountability. This award recognizes that effort and notes that the report had no findings,” said Dr. Shelley Kneuvean, Chief Financial Officer. “As we work to support the goals of financial sustainability and transparency, having a solid clean audit delivered on time will be goal for fiscal year 2024 and beyond.”
The 2024 fiscal year closed December 31, 2024, and the independent audit is well underway. The external auditor is Forvismazars, and the audit should be completed by June of 2025. A single audit of all federal grants received annually is also completed which should be completed in September 2025.
