So it's that time again. It's time to renew your plates. Let's see if we can make this an easy process.

Kansas Law requires motor vehicle registration to be renewed each year with a license plate displaying the current year’s decal.

Let's get this process taken care of!

Online

Getting your tags renewed online is the easiest way to complete the yearly requirement! Whether you own a car, truck, motorcycle, motorized bike or trailer you are required to renew the registration yearly. To get the renewal you will need to complete all the steps, including paying both the renewal fee and the local property taxes. Let's get started!

Step 1.Make sure renewal is the right process

  • Is the car in someone else's name?
  • Was the car a gift?
  • Is the car new to you?

If you thought yes to any of these questions, you might need to start the registration process. Find out what you need to Register.

Step 2.Has anything changed?

If you name was different last year at the time you renewed or your title is in a different name you might need to do a change of name with us before you can get started. Do that right here.

Make sure you allow time for use to process any changes before you start the renewal online process.

Step 3.Make Sure Your Insurance is Valid

The card is not enough - the insurance must be valid to renew your tag. The insurance agent must have reported to the insurance commission that your insurance is valid. If you get started online and can not proceed - it could be because the insurance on file with the State of Kansas has not be updated. Check in with your insurance agent. If you run into this please come into the office or use our mail-in/drop off services so we can help you get your renewal processed.

Step 4.Gather What You Need

You will need a few pieces of information before you can get online and process the payment.

  1. Renewal Notice

It will take a few days to get your new decals in the mail. Make sure to keep renewal receipt on the myWYCO app.

New changes in Kansas Statues allow those renewing online a 10 day grace period from the expiration of your current registration and when you are expected to receive your decal in the mail. You must present proof of online renewal to law enforcement if needed.

Step 7.Why Can't I Renew Online?

We wish that this would have worked out for you. Let's see if we can determine why you are having this issue.

The online process will not work for you if:

  1. The insurance not updated by your provider in the Kansas Insurance Portal.
    • Consider contacting your insurance agent
    • Follow the instructions to drop-off or mail in your renewal.
    • Bring your renewal to the Motor Vehicle Department in person
  2. Your address needs updated.

Step 1.Gather Your Information

You will need to have a few pieces of information for the best, and fastest results. Best to gather it first. Here are some items that you will need. The best place to gather this from is the registration for the vehicle.

  1. Year, Make and Model of the vehicle
  2. VIN#
  3. Owner's name and address reported on the title and last registration
  4. Permit number, if it was a 30 Day Permit
  5. Plate number and type (Standard, Personalized, College, etc.)
  6. Expiration of the decal or year of expiration.

Step 2.Should I make a Police Report?

If your vehicle license plate was stolen then you need to start by making a police report.

If it was the renewal sticker only, no police report is required. You will need to fill out the Lost or Stolen Affidavit

Step 3.Make the Police Report

Make sure you contact the Police Department for the location of the theft. When you make the report, make sure to record the Police Report Number, sometimes called the incident number. You will need this to complete the process.
