Join us for this information-filled docu-series in February. View these dynamic films, ask our panelists your burning questions and enjoy some snacks to boot! This is a community education event for anyone interested in learning about LGBTQ+ issues and challenges in families, churches and schools. Seating is limited, so RSVP soon to attend. 

Feb 3: Mama Bears

Conservative, Christian mothers discover their children are LGBTQ+. They ultimately make a 180-degree turnaround to become Mama Bears, fierce advocates for their children.

Delia Perez-Solorzano.jpg Panel Moderator: Delia Carmen Pérez-Solórzano is an esteemed educator with over eighteen years in K-12 education and a dedicated advocate for immigrant and LGBTQIA+ communities. She is currently serving as a Career and Technical Education Instructional Coach in the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools, and pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership.

 

 

Feb 10: Every Body

Profiles three intersex individuals who have endured arbitrary surgeries as infants to force them into one gender. As adults, they have decided to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and present their authentic selves.

Clay Wirestone.jpg Panel Moderator: Clay Wirestone serves as Kansas Reflector's opinion editor. He has written columns and edited reporting for newsrooms in Kansas, New Hampshire, Florida and Pennsylvania. Most recently, Clay spent nearly four years at the nonprofit Kansas Action for Children as communications director. Clay graduated from the University of Kansas and lives in Lawrence with his husband and son.

 

Feb. 17: Gender Affirming Care in Kansas City

Members of the transgender community discuss challenges accessing gender-affirming care and its impact, with the professionals who provide the care and support.

G Rashaan Gilmore.jpg Panel Moderator: D. Rashaan Gilmore is the host of KC PBS Flatland in Focus, a monthly current affairs program. He is a Newsweek contributing writer and the host of the weekly radio program Unbossed and Unbothered on 90.1 FM KKFI. Gilmore is also the founder of BlaqOut, a Kansas City nonprofit working to serve the Black queer community and help end the HIV/AIDS crisis. He is the recipient of the 2021 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation–AIDS United Award for Health Equity.
