The Unified Government will host a special Flood Damage Disposal Event on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Indian Springs (47th & Orville, Kansas City, Kansas 66102) to support residents affected by recent severe weather.
Residents of Wyandotte County are invited to dispose of flood-damaged items at no charge. Waste Management is generously donating dumpster delivery service, and space is limited. Participation will be first-come, first-served.
Only flood-damaged items will be accepted. Items not accepted include:
- Household hazardous waste
- Appliances
- Loose trash
- Yard waste or storm debris.
This event is specifically for household items damaged by flooding. KCK residents have several other options for disposing of yard waste and storm-related debris:
Curbside Pickup (on your normal trash day)
Recycling & Yard Waste Center (3241 Park Drive, Kansas City, Kansas 66102)
- Free for KCK residents with proof of residency.
- Accepts glass, paper, cardboard, food & beverage cans, plastics #1-7, grass clippings, garden trimmings, leaves, branches up to 4 feet long, and stumps up to 12 inches in diameter.
- Open Thursday through Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM (weather permitting).
Johnson County Landfill (17955 Holliday Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66217)
- Accepts yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, branches 3 inches or less in diameter and 4 feet or less in length, fallen fruit, nuts, and acorns).
- Open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- Does not accept oversized branches, sod, or manure.
“We know many of our residents were hit hard by the recent storms,” said Diana Miles, Solid Waste Manager. “This disposal event gives people a quick, no-cost way to get rid of water-damaged household items. We’re grateful to Waste Management for stepping up to help us make this happen.”
Residents should be prepared to unload their items. Staff will be on-site to assist with traffic flow and confirm eligibility.

- Recyclables (glass, paper, plastics)
- Items for donation (e.g., mattresses in good condition)
Is there a cost to participate?
No. This event is free for Wyandotte County residents.
Do I need to unload my items?
Yes. Residents are responsible for unloading their own materials. Staff will be on-site to assist with traffic and verify eligibility.
Is space limited?
Yes. It is available first-come, first-served. The event will close at noon or earlier if dumpsters fill up.
Can I bring storm debris like tree limbs or branches?
Not to this event. Yard waste and storm debris must be disposed of using one of the following options:
Curbside Pickup (on your regular trash day)
- Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
- Tree limbs must be bundled (no more than 4 feet long, 50 pounds, and 4 inches in diameter).
- Residents in the Trash and Recycling Carts Program area should refer to wycokck.org/Carts for their specific disposal details.

- Open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 AM–3 PM

What else should I know?
Help the event go smoothly for everyone by keeping the following in mind:
- The event is only available to Wyandotte County residents
- Arrive early
- Do not block intersections when waiting in line
- Following the directions of Public Works team members and Police Officers
- Be ready to show your proof of residency
- Bring appropriate gloves and eye protection to limit the risk of injury while unloading
