Awarded AARP Grant Brings KCK One Step Closer to Meeting the Goals as a Community for All Ages

Last week, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) celebrated the official ribbon-cutting for 12 newly installed benches at Clopper Park, Mac’s Park, Pierson Park, Rosedale Park, and Wyandotte County Park. These new benches were made possible through an awarded AARP Community Challenge Grant.

These AARP-sponsored benches are designed to accommodate all ages. They offer comfortable seating and improved accessibility and bring the KCK community one step closer to meeting its goals as a Community for All Ages.

“I’m proud of our Unified Government staff who continue to not only improve our parks but work toward our goal of being a Community for All Ages,” stated At-Large District 1 Commissioner Melissa Bynum. “Applying for the AARP grant which funded the benches is just one of the many ways our employees continue to go above and beyond to help create livable spaces for our residents and our community.”

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony community members gathered and heard brief remarks from At-Large District 1 Commissioner Melissa Bynum, Senator Pat Petty, Assistant County Administrator Alan Howze, UG Long Range Planner Alyssa Marcy, and AARP State Director Glenda DuBoise.
