Unified Government Honors Volunteers at Appreciation Breakfast

Today, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) hosted a volunteer appreciation celebration at Memorial Hall, KCK to honor the dedication of over 120 volunteers that serve throughout many UG departments and agencies.
Today’s ceremony honored the commitment of volunteers that serve within the UG from 3 months to over 25 years. This group of volunteers come from many different backgrounds, but all have the same common goal in mind, which is helping enhance the lives of the people of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
“I am beyond grateful for the hard work, sincere passion, and the knowledge that our volunteers bring to the UG each year," said Human Resources Director, J. Renee Ramirez. On behalf of all the employees of the Unified Government, we thank our volunteers for continuing to have the heart to share their time with us.”
This year Juvenile Detention Center Director (JDC) Terri McKinney provided brief remarks of thanks to the various groups that volunteer and support the youth within the Detention Center. The Detour Group was recognized for volunteering with those in JDC for over 20 years.
This year's volunteers served in the following Unified Government Departments:
- AmeriCorps VISTAS (Various VISTA Volunteers Served throughout UG Departments)
- Area Agency on Aging
- Chaplains for Police and Fire Department
- District Attorney’s Office
- Emergency Management
- Human Resources
- Mayor's Office
- Sheriff Department Chaplains
- Sheriff Department – Juvenile Detention Center
- Sheriff Reserve Deputies
