Mayor Garner Launches Youth Leadership Council

Engaging Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas Youth!

As part of Mayor Garner's vision and mission for empowering youth in Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, he has officially announced the launching of a Youth Leadership Council for 11th and 12th grade students around the community. 

The goal of the Youth Leadership Council is to help students prepare for the future while strengthening their leadership skills through engagement and involvement. 

"I am excited to launch the Youth Leadership Council," expressed Mayor Tyrone A. Garner. This great opportunity will allow selected students first-hand experience in a professional environment, while helping our community with various projects. I can't wait to see the amazing things the students will do to positively impact our community." 

Students will have access to professional mentors as well as the opportunity to work with various community organizations and leaders. Through this opportunity, selected students will enhance their leadership skills by working to develop and lead various community initiatives. 

How to Apply?

Interested students wanting to gain first-hand experience on how to be an effective advocate for the community are encouraged to apply. 

Interested and eligible 11th and 12th grade students are encouraged to apply by scanning the below QR code or completing the below application document. The Application Deadline is Monday, April 3, 2023

All applications are to be submitted no later than Monday, April 3, 2023, by 12:00 PM.

Applications can be submitted to the Unified Government County Clerk's Office via email, mail or in person.

Application Process and Next Steps

After students submit their applications, the Mayor's Youth Leadership Council Advisory Committee will review all applications and schedule interviews with candidates between April 17-21, 2023. 

Selected candidates will be confirmed and announced on Friday, May 5th, 2023.
