Dance the Day Away at this Year's Sock Hop Celebration

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas is excited to observe and celebrate Older Americans Month (OAM).

Each May, the Administration for Community Living charges the nation with recognizing and reaffirming the contributions, aging trends, and commitments of older adults in our communities. This year’s theme set by the Administration for Community Living is “Powered by Connection”. This theme focuses on the vital role that connectedness plays in combatting isolation, loneliness, and many other issues.

2024 Sock Hop Themed Celebration and Resource Fair

In aligning with this year’s theme, the Wyandotte/ Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging and Disability Resource Center invites everyone to connect for at a 1950’s style Sock Hop Themed Celebration on Thursday, May 23 from 11AM to 2PM at the George Meyn Community Center (126th and State Avenue, KCK).

All are welcome to attend this fun event. Guests can show off skills during the dance contest, play games and win prizes, enjoy food and beverages, check-in on your health with a screening, connect with community resources and neighbors, and simply enjoy the entertainment!

Donations Are Greatly Appreciated!

We appreciate our community's support for this annual event. Tax deductible donations are being accepted for door prizes. We also appreciate cash or in-kind donations to make this a successful event. Honoring Older Americans Month

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living, (ACL), leads the nations Aging network, which consist of up to 640 Area Agencies on Aging, up to 250 Title VI, Native American Aging service providers, and over 20,000 network organizations, in honoring our Older Americans during the month of May. During this time of the year annually, networks all over the country set aside time to recognize the many contributions that older adults make to our community.

Area Agency on Aging Mission and Services

The AAA’s mission is act as the singlepoint-of-entry, whereas a consumer can navigate their way through the network of agencies and become linked with the services that allow them to make choices for themselves with a primary focus on maintaining independence in their own home and communities. 

In-Home Services, Nutrition Programs, Case Management, Options Counseling, Family Caregiver Support, Enhanced Fitness, are some of the many services offered through the Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging.
