33rd Annual Black History Celebration & Scholarship Celebration

Over 200 to Gather to Celebrate Black History and Provide Scholarships to Local WyCo/ KCK Students
Tomorrow, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas Black History Committee (BHC) will host its 33rd Annual Black History Fundraiser and Scholarship Celebration. This annual scholarship event will be held in the Ballroom of Memorial Hall (600 N. 7th Street, KCK) from 11 AM to 2 PM.
Since the inception of the UG Black History Committee over 70 scholarships have been awarded to area college and high school seniors. The event anticipating over 220 guests will focus on the Legacy Building Through the Foundational Pillars of HBCUs.

Guests will enjoy a day of networking with many elected officials, community leaders, and honorees. Guests will also enjoy local entertainment, a catered brunch, and a dynamic panel discussion moderated by UG Community Development Director Kay Sharp and community leaders Reginald Lindsey, Toni Vaughn, Lorin Crenshaw, and Tia Watkins.

During this year’s celebration, the BHC will deliver scholarships to students attending Kansas City, Kansas Community College, and Donnelly College.
Like years past, the UG Black History Committee will also be presenting a community leader and business award to voted-on community members who have demonstrated years of dedication and impactful leadership in Wyandotte County and KCK. Below winners will be presented at the ceremony. There will also be a special tribute honoring the life of Jerel McGeachy Jr., 2023 BHC event speaker.
