Another Banner Year for Bikeshare

The Unified Government (UG) bikeshare program, in partnership with RideKC Bike, once again achieved double digit growth in 2024. Utilization of the electric bikes (e-bikes) increased by 12% in 2024. There was also a significant rate of cross traffic, with KCK bikes traveling to other local municipalities, such as Westwood, as well as neighborhoods throughout Kansas City, Missouri. KCK bikes have one of the highest trips per bike rates in the region, second only to Kansas City, Missouri. The UG has studied usage across Kansas City, Kansas with our partners at BikeWalkKC and will redeploy new bike hubs and docking locations to optimize access in Wyandotte County.

Please keep reading for more information about service changes for RideKC Bike, as well as the location of new locations for this program.

RideKC Bike Wrangler Program

The new RideKC Bike Wrangler Program now gives people an opportunity to earn free access to bike share. Monthly RideKC Bike Members automatically get their next month’s membership for FREE when they return 20 or more out-of-hub bikes in a calendar month back to designated hubs. This new program takes from best practices around the national shared-use mobility industry to maintain high-quality public spaces and provide a way for locals to support the operation of a top-notch bike share system here in Greater Kansas City. Parking Convenience Fee

Riders will still have the option to park outside of the hubs designated on the RideKC Bike app, but they will be charged a $2 out-of-hub convenience fee. Bikes parked at designated hubs are less likely to be vandalized or stolen, and more bikes at hubs means more users can reliably find a bike when they need it. RideKC Bike hopes this new policy will encourage more people to return their bikes to hubs, which in turn means less time RideKC Bike staff must spend recovering unlocked bikes and stocking hubs.

Parking-Only Hub Additions

RideKC Bike staff recognizes that hubs are not always at a convenient parking location everywhere riders want to go. Because of this, “parking-only” hubs will be established at some existing bike rack locations. Parking-only hubs will not be stocked with bikes by RideKC Bike staff, but will allow riders to end their trip there without paying the Convenience Fee.

New Locations in KCK

Redeployment will remove the two least-used bike hubs in Rosedale and add new bike hubs at the Friendship Inn (south of Rainbow Boulevard and 43rd Street) later in 2025, as well as a new location in Downtown KCK at the 7th and Minnesota transit station. Taking into account trip start and end trip data, RideKC Bike will also add parking-only hubs at Holy Family Park (274 Orchard Street) and The Merc Co-op (501 Minnesota Ave). These will provide additional free parking in areas that are popular for end trips both in the neighborhood near residential housing and at the grocery store and farmer’s market.
