The Kansas Department of Transportation will close eastbound I-670 over the Kansas River in Wyandotte County for one week, starting at 5 AM, Monday, August 4, for maintenance work. Adjacent ramps also will be fully closed, with a marked detour in place. All lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by Monday, August 11, conditions permitting. Message boards have been placed in the area to alert motorists of upcoming closures. The following will be fully closed to traffic from August 4 to August 11:
Traffic will be detoured as follows: Continue east on I-70 to use the southbound I-35 ramp. Travel south on I-35 to use the I-670 ramps. Maintenance repairs on the eastbound and westbound I-670 bridges over the Kansas River and Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Avenue bridge over I-70 and Union Pacific Railroad are tied projects and include girder work, expansion joint replacement and bridge deck patching. These projects share traffic control and are expected to be completed by late September. Work is scheduled during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday. Traffic will be controlled using lane and ramp closures, changeable message boards, signs, traffic cones and barricades. Clarkson Construction of Kansas City, Missouri, is the contractor for the tied projects with a total cost of $9.3 million. KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit KanDrive.gov or call 511.
