In 2020, Wyandotte County had nearly $1B in economic development activity and the momentum continues into 2021. To sustain our efforts to create a strong job market, vibrant neighborhoods, and more economic opportunity for all residents, County Administrator Doug Bach is glad to announce the return of Economic Development Director Katherine Carttar who has served the Unified Government since 2018.
With her recent marriage to Kansas City, Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas, Mr. Bach has authorized a special agreement temporarily waiving the residency requirement while her husband serves as Mayor. “Katherine is in a very unique situation that warrants special consideration. An employee should not be forced to choose between living with her spouse or raising her child in a separate home,” said Bach. “This is the right thing to do.”
The Unified Government maintains a residency requirement for employees and the County Administrator made clear his intent to approve the residency exceptions for extenuating circumstances to the Unified Government Commission during the public meeting June 24th. Ms. Carttar will return to work part-time following family leave in early July and will be back full-time by mid-July.
