Fleet Services, a division of the Public Works Department at the Unified Government (UG), has been named on the 2025 “100 Best Fleets in the Americas” Honorable Mentions list. Presented by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA), the recognition places Fleet Services among a select group of public and private fleet operations across North and South America, demonstrating innovation, efficiency, and service excellence.

The annual “100 Best Fleets” program recognizes organizations raising the bar in fleet management. Applicants are evaluated based on 12 criteria, including technology use, financial stewardship, employee development, turnaround time, sustainability, and more.

"The recognition from NAFA is a huge honor for our team,” said Russ Owens, Fleet Manager. “Over the past few years, we have rethought how we operate, from upgrading software and streamlining processes to reshaping our teamwork, accountability, culture, and customer service. This award is validation that we are on the right path.”

The Fleet Services team plays a critical role in daily life. With a team of 25 skilled professionals, they manage the maintenance and repair of over 1,300 vehicles and equipment. This includes patrol vehicles, snowplows, dump trucks, commercial construction equipment, tractors, trailers, and other essential assets used by the Sheriff’s Office, Police Department, Public Health Department, Environmental Services, Street Maintenance, and many other UG departments.

From brake jobs and engine overhauls to hydraulic system repairs and diagnostics, the team ensures that vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for service. Their work allows departments to respond effectively to emergencies, maintain public safety, and deliver critical community services. Simply put, Fleet keeps the government running so the government can serve the people.

"Fleet may not always be visible to the public, but the team’s impact is everywhere,” Owens said. “Our goal is to make sure every department we support can rely on the vehicles and equipment they need to do their jobs effectively, and we are proud of our role in making that possible.”
