I-70 Closures Scheduled Near I-435 for Bridge Pavement Repairs

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will temporarily close portions of I-70 in both directions near I-435 to complete bridge approach pavement repairs. Work is scheduled to begin Thursday evening, November 20, weather permitting. Drivers should expect delays and follow posted detours.

Message boards are already in place to alert motorists. All affected lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, November 24.

Closures beginning Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m.:

  • Westbound I-70 at I-435
  • Northbound I-435 to westbound I-70 loop ramp
  • Westbound I-70 to southbound I-435 loop ramp


Additional closures beginning Friday, November 21 at 9 a.m.:

  • Eastbound I-70 at I-435
  • Eastbound I-70 to northbound I-435 loop ramp


Marked detours will guide traffic around the closures:

Eastbound I-70

  • Use southbound I-435, exit at Kansas Avenue, turn left and continue east, then turn left again onto northbound I-435 to reconnect with eastbound I-70.

Westbound I-70

  • Use northbound I-435, exit at West State Avenue, continue west, then enter southbound I-435 and return to westbound I-70.

Northbound I-435 to westbound I-70

  • Continue north on I-435 to West State Avenue, travel west, then use the southbound I-435 entrance to return to westbound I-70.

Westbound I-70 to southbound I-435

  • Use northbound I-435, exit at West State Avenue, travel west, then enter southbound I-435.

Eastbound I-70 to northbound I-435

  • Use southbound I-435, exit at Kansas Avenue, turn left and continue east, then turn left again to access northbound I-435.


Drivers will see lane and ramp closures, traffic cones, barricades, signage, and changeable message boards throughout the work zone. KDOT encourages drivers to slow down, stay alert, and follow posted instructions for everyone’s safety.
