The James Street Bridge over the Kansas River will close temporarily for joint repairs on the weekends of April 5 and April 19. The bridge will reopen before rush hour each Monday.

The repair work is specifically targeted at the bridge’s joints and will be conducted over two weekends to minimize disruption. The schedule for the closures and work periods are as follows:

First Weekend of Work

  • The bridge will be closed after rush hour on Friday, April 5, and will reopen by 6 AM on Monday, April 8, weather allowing.

Second Weekend of Work

  • A similar pattern will follow the next weekend, with the bridge closing after rush hour on Friday, April 19, and reopening by 6 AM on Monday, April 22, weather depending.

To facilitate access to businesses located on James Street during work weekends, traffic will be allowed from the east side via the Genesee/Wyoming Exit off I-670. Outside of working weekends, the bridge will be open to traffic with no restrictions. The decision to carry out repairs over two weekends was made to limit the disruption to commuters and businesses.

Comanche Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the $160,000 bridge repair. For assistance or questions, please contact Public Works Engineering by dialing 3-1-1.
